Luminaire Lighting

With today’s modern technology and the use of energy, people try to focus on saving energy and the best way to utilize it. Luminaire lighting will not produce the same light output for some of the light are will be trapped and dissipate as heat. It depends on the luminaires’ physical attributes on how the light will bring out for display.

Luminaire lighting can be classified under six categories: architectural, recessed, ceiling-mounted, suspended, plug-in and wall-mounted.

In Architectural, luminaires are usually decorated horizontally on the wall and ceiling tops. Most of the time, they are assembled and integrated into the structure. They can be either hybrid or Tycoon. When testing architectural luminaires which can be seen in parking lots, roadways and industrial lightings, it is necessary to assessment the intensity as a function of angle because it defines the allocation of light if it is distributed evenly.  The testing will also depend of the luminaire’s size and its distance.

Next up is Ceiling-mounted. Ceiling-mounted luminaires are attached directly to the ceiling. You can see these luminaire lamps at dining area and restaurants. They use this kind of luminaire lighting fixture to provide ambiance. It creates a certain atmosphere that is warm and cozy. Keep in mind that when you install a ceiling-mounted luminaire, it must be placed at least 7 feet above the floor. Do not also use diffusers that are thin, because it can cause glare. Third, the Plug-in luminaires. They are lighting fixtures that are portable. Generally they are small table lamps, floor lamps and desk lamps and night lights. They are able to adjust in different conditions and can be rearranged and integrated within your furniture and home design.

Recessed Luminaire lighting falls into under two types: Troffers and Cans or High-hats. They have the task of providing us with general background lighting which are quite easy to install and durable at the same time. They come in different designs that will blend with any surrounding that can create a pleasing environment. The luminaires that hang from the ceiling using a chain or a cord and includes downlights, they are called suspended luminaires. They are usually used for task lights, décor and ambiance. Use a diffuser that is opaque to create the ambiance. And last, but not the least, Wall-mounted luminaires. Wall-mounted luminaires can be used to give us disseminated light in hallways and other places such as dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms. They are used appropriately for rooms that have low ceilings.

So when choosing what kind of luminaires, here is one tip that I can share with you: Make sure to check if the luminaire has Energy Star label on it. If it does not have any labels, do not buy or at least try not to buy it because it can create problems for you sometime in the future.
